Chicago and Italy have always been a powerful combination, as evidenced by Chi-town’s history with both Capone-era mafia-types and that delicious killer known as Chicago-style pizza. Now beautifully answering a question no one asked, Volvo’s showing us what happens when you add a Swedish touch to a Chitalian object, with its Pure Tension pavilion in Milan.
Volvo wanted to show that sustainable energy can be beautiful, and not just fields covered in wind turbines or rooftops smothered in solar panels, so they set up a competition and let architects from across the globe submit designs for a solar-powered mobile charging station for Volvo’s new V60 plug-in hybrid diesel.
